Description

These Banana and Peanut Butter Chewy Sticks are a healthy and delicious homemade dog treat. Made with simple, natural ingredients like ripe banana, unsweetened peanut butter, rolled oats, and whole wheat flour, these chewy sticks are perfect for rewarding your furry friend. They are easy to prepare, baked to a golden brown, and have a satisfying chewy texture dogs love.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (or gluten-free flour if needed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (unsweetened and xylitol-free)
  • 1/4 cup water (or as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, mash the ripe banana until smooth. Add the peanut butter and mix well until fully combined. If you choose, honey can be added, but it is optional.
  3. Add dry ingredients: Gradually stir in the rolled oats, whole wheat flour, and cinnamon (if using). Mix until the dough starts to come together. If the dough is too dry or thick, add water a little at a time until the right consistency is achieved.
  4. Shape the dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into long strips approximately 1/2-inch wide.
  5. Bake: Place the strips onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown and the treats feel firm.
  6. Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and let the chewy sticks cool completely on a wire rack before giving them to your dog.

Notes

  • Ensure the peanut butter used is free from xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
  • Whole wheat flour can be substituted with gluten-free flour if your dog has allergies.
  • Store treats in an airtight container for up to a week to maintain freshness.
  • You can freeze extra treats for longer storage.
  • Always introduce new treats gradually and monitor your dog for any adverse reactions.
