Ingredients
Scale
Sauce
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/3 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes
Noodles
- 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Main
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
- 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup water
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the low-sodium soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Mix well and set aside to let the flavors meld while continuing with other steps.
- Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the ramen noodles for 2-3 minutes until just tender. Drain the noodles, rinse under cold water to stop cooking, then toss them with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to prevent sticking and add flavor. Set aside.
- Sear the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the sirloin steak strips with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Add the steak to the hot skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Steam the broccoli: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and pour in 1/2 cup of water. Add the fresh broccoli florets and cover the pan with a lid. Allow the broccoli to steam for about 3-4 minutes until tender but still crisp. Drain any excess water if necessary.
- Combine and heat through: Return the cooked steak strips to the skillet with the steamed broccoli. Add the prepared ramen noodles and pour the sauce evenly over all ingredients. Stir well to coat everything in the sauce and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and the dish is heated through.
- Garnish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for garnish. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful beef and broccoli ramen stir fry!
Notes
- For a spicier dish, increase the amount of cracked red pepper flakes or add a drizzle of sriracha sauce.
- If preferred, substitute sirloin steak with flank steak or skirt steak for similar tenderness.
- Rinse the cooked ramen noodles under cold water to prevent them from overcooking and clumping.
- You can add additional vegetables like sliced bell peppers or carrots for extra color and nutrition.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice if you want to stretch the meal further.
