Ingredients
Scale
Big Mac Sauce
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or white distilled vinegar
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Hot Dogs & Toppings
- 8 bun-length beef hot dogs
- 8 hot dog buns
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 16 slices American cheese
- 2 cups shredded lettuce
- Dill pickle slices (about 3-4 per hot dog)
- Finely diced white onion (to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the Big Mac Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, ketchup, yellow mustard, vinegar, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt until combined thoroughly. Set aside to let the flavors meld while you prepare the hot dogs.
- Cook the Hot Dogs: Grill, pan-fry, or cook the hot dogs on a grill pan over medium heat until heated through and nicely browned, about 5-7 minutes depending on method. Turn occasionally for even cooking.
- Toast the Buns: Preheat the oven broiler. Arrange the hot dog buns on a baking sheet and broil just until warmed, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from oven and, while still warm, brush buns with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds to mimic the classic Big Mac bun.
- Melting the Cheese: Place two slices of American cheese inside each toasted bun. Return the buns under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted but not bubbling over.
- Assemble the Hot Dogs: Place about ¼ cup shredded lettuce over the melted cheese, then add a cooked hot dog on top. Tuck 3-4 dill pickle slices alongside the hot dog, sprinkle with finely diced white onion, and finish by drizzling a generous amount of the Big Mac special sauce over everything. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- You can prepare the Big Mac sauce a day ahead to enhance the flavor.
- For a healthier option, use low-fat mayonnaise or substitute beef hot dogs with turkey or chicken hot dogs.
- If you don’t have a broiler, toast buns in a hot oven set to 400°F for 3-4 minutes.
- Customize toppings by adding tomato slices or pickled jalapeños for a spicy kick.
- Ensure the cheese melts properly by watching closely under the broiler to avoid burning.
