Ingredients
Scale
Salmon and Spice Rub
- 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Creamy Dijon Sauce
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Spice Mix: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix together paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to create the blackening spice blend.
- Prepare the Salmon: Pat the salmon fillets dry using paper towels to ensure better searing. Rub each fillet evenly with olive oil to help the spices adhere and promote browning.
- Apply the Spice Rub: Generously coat the top and sides of each salmon fillet with the prepared spice mixture, pressing it gently into the flesh to lock in the flavors.
- Blacken the Salmon: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down (if they have skin) and cook undisturbed for 3–4 minutes. Flip the fillets and cook the other side for an additional 3–4 minutes until the salmon is blackened, opaque, and flakes easily with a fork.
- Make the Creamy Dijon Sauce: While the salmon cooks, combine sour cream, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and honey in a small bowl. Whisk until the sauce is smooth and well blended.
- Serve: Plate the blackened salmon fillets and spoon a generous drizzle of the creamy Dijon sauce over each. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired and serve hot.
Notes
- Adjust the cayenne pepper quantity to control the spice level according to your preference.
- The creamy Dijon sauce can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
- This dish pairs well with rice, roasted vegetables, or a light salad for a complete meal.
