Scale
Main Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
- 3 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded
- 1/2 cup buffalo sauce (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 hoagie rolls or sub buns
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
- 1/4 cup ranch or blue cheese dressing (optional)
- Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the Oil: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat to prepare for sautéing the vegetables and chicken.
- Sauté Vegetables: Add thinly sliced onion and optional green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the vegetables are softened and slightly caramelized, bringing out their sweetness.
- Add Chicken and Sauce: Mix in the shredded cooked chicken, buffalo sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 3–4 minutes, stirring until the chicken is thoroughly heated and evenly coated with the sauce.
- Preheat Broiler: Turn on your oven broiler or toaster oven to prepare for melting the cheese on the sandwiches.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Slice open the hoagie rolls and place them on a baking sheet. Spoon the buffalo chicken mixture evenly into each roll.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese generously over the filled sandwiches.
- Broil Sandwiches: Place the baking sheet under the broiler for 2–4 minutes. Watch carefully to ensure the cheese melts smoothly and becomes bubbly without burning.
- Garnish and Serve: Optionally drizzle ranch or blue cheese dressing on top and garnish with chopped green onions or parsley before serving for added flavor and freshness.
Notes
- You can adjust the amount of buffalo sauce to control the spiciness of the sandwich.
- For a milder version, use less buffalo sauce or add more cheese.
- Substitute cooked shredded turkey or beef if preferred.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor, as the sandwich is best enjoyed warm and fresh.
- If you don’t have a broiler, you can melt the cheese in a preheated 375°F oven for about 5–7 minutes.
