Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Stuffing
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 box (6 oz) stuffing mix (any flavor)
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
Sauce
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Toppings and Garnish
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking and allow easy cleanup.
- Prepare the Stuffing: In a mixing bowl, combine the stuffing mix with 1 1/2 cups of hot water. Stir until the stuffing is moistened evenly, then let it sit for a few minutes so it can absorb the liquid fully.
- Make the Sauce Mixture: In a separate bowl, mix together the condensed cream of chicken soup, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined, forming a creamy sauce.
- Assemble the Bake: Arrange the chicken breasts evenly in the prepared baking dish. Season them with salt and pepper to your preference. Spread the creamy sauce mixture evenly over the chicken breasts. Next, spoon the prepared stuffing on top of the sauce layer, and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese if using.
- Bake Covered and Uncovered: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking uncovered for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the stuffing is golden brown.
- Rest and Garnish: Remove the baking dish from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes to allow the juices to redistribute. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, then serve warm with your favorite side dishes.
Notes
- You can use any flavor of stuffing mix, but traditional or herb-seasoned stuffing works best for flavor balance.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute sour cream and cheese with non-dairy alternatives or omit them.
- Make sure to check the chicken’s internal temperature with a meat thermometer to ensure it is fully cooked.
- If you prefer a crispier stuffing topping, switch the oven to broil for the last 2-3 minutes but watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated thoroughly before serving.
