Description

This creamy homemade peanut butter recipe offers a simple way to create fresh, natural peanut butter at home using just raw peanuts and sea salt. Roasting the peanuts enhances their rich, nutty flavor before blending them into a smooth, spreadable consistency. Perfect for sandwiches, baking, or drizzling over breakfast dishes, this peanut butter is a versatile, healthy alternative to store-bought varieties without additives or preservatives.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 400 g raw unsalted peanuts, without shells
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Roast the peanuts: Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F). Place the raw unsalted peanuts on a baking sheet and bake for 12-14 minutes until they are toasted and fragrant. Remove the tray from the oven and let the peanuts cool completely for about 30 minutes to ensure optimal blending texture.
  2. Blend the peanuts: Transfer the cooled roasted peanuts to a high-speed blender or food processor. Blend for 3-4 minutes, starting on a lower speed if using equipment like a Vitamix until the peanuts break down into a coarse meal, then increase to high speed until the mixture becomes creamy and nut butter consistency forms. Add 1 teaspoon of sea salt during blending to enhance flavor.
  3. Serve: Use your creamy homemade peanut butter by spreading it on sandwiches or toast, drizzling over pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal. It also works as a delicious base for homemade peanut butter sauce or an ingredient in cookies, bars, tarts, brownies, ice cream, or homemade fudge and candy. For most uses, plain, unsweetened peanut butter is recommended.
  4. Store: Transfer the peanut butter to a clean, airtight jar and refrigerate. Properly stored, it will last up to 2 months, maintaining freshness and flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure peanuts are completely cool before blending to avoid overheating your blender and to achieve the best creamy texture.
  • If you prefer a sweeter peanut butter, you can add sweeteners like honey or maple syrup, but this recipe yields a plain unsweetened version.
  • Stir the peanut butter if oil separates on top during storage to reincorporate for smoothness.
  • Use high-quality raw unsalted peanuts for the best flavor and control over salt content.
  • Use a food processor if you don’t have a high-speed blender—processing time may be slightly longer.
