Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Sauce
- 1 1/4 cups barbecue sauce (I use Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce)
- 1/4 cup Zesty Italian dressing
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
Instructions
- Prepare the Crock Pot: Spray the inside of a large 7-quart crock pot with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Season and Add Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Lay them evenly at the bottom of the crock pot.
- Make the Sauce: In a medium bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, Zesty Italian dressing, light brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic. Mix until smooth.
- Pour Sauce Over Chicken: Evenly pour the prepared sauce mixture over the chicken breasts in the crock pot, making sure all pieces are covered.
- Cook: Cover the crock pot with its lid and cook on High heat for 3 to 4 hours, or choose Low heat for about 5 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
- Serve: Serve the chicken whole or shred it using two forks for sandwiches, pizzas, salads, or as desired. Enjoy warm.
Notes
- You can substitute chicken thighs for a juicier, more flavorful result.
- Adjust the sweetness or tanginess by varying the amounts of brown sugar and Italian dressing.
- Leftovers store well for up to 3 days in the refrigerator and freeze beautifully for up to 3 months.
- Serve with coleslaw or pickles for a complete BBQ meal.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, remove the chicken after cooking and reduce the sauce on the stovetop.
