Description

This Fall Off the Bone Ribs recipe delivers tender, flavorful ribs that melt in your mouth. Slow-cooked in the oven with a delicious homemade dry rub and finished with a savory BBQ sauce on the grill, these ribs are perfect for a comforting family dinner or weekend cookout.

Ingredients

Scale

Ribs and Dry Rub

  • 3 racks baby ribs
  • 4 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp paprika
  • 1 Tbsp kosher salt
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion salt
  • 1 tsp celery salt
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp ground cumin

BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 to 3 dashes hot sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp celery seed

Instructions

  1. Prep the ribs: Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. If desired, cut each rack in half to make handling easier after cooking.
  2. Make the dry rub: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion salt, celery salt, cayenne pepper, and ground cumin.
  3. Apply the rub and marinate: Place one rack of ribs on two sheets of heavy-duty foil. Generously apply the dry rub on both sides of the ribs, patting it in gently. Wrap the ribs tightly in foil and refrigerate for 30 minutes to overnight.
  4. Cook the ribs in the oven: Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Place the foil-wrapped ribs on a rimmed baking sheet to catch any juices. Bake for 2½ to 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender and the bones twist with little resistance.
  5. Prepare the BBQ sauce: In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, water, vinegar, sugar, salt, and celery seed. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Finish on the grill: Preheat the grill. Carefully unwrap the cooked ribs and transfer them to the grill. Brush generously with BBQ sauce and grill for 5-10 minutes to caramelize the sauce. Alternatively, brush with sauce and broil in the oven.

Notes

  • Removing the membrane from the ribs is crucial for tenderness.
  • Cutting ribs in half before cooking can help with handling and even cooking.
  • Marinating overnight intensifies flavor but is optional.
  • Slow oven cooking ensures ribs become fall-off-the-bone tender.
  • Grilling or broiling with BBQ sauce adds a delicious caramelized finish.
  • You can adjust the heat by altering the amount of cayenne pepper and hot sauce.
