Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 2 large apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
Batter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Frying and Serving
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel and core the apples carefully, then slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Pat each ring dry with paper towels to ensure the batter adheres well.
- Make the Batter: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, and vanilla extract until combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined to form a smooth batter without overmixing.
- Heat the Oil: Pour about 1 inch of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan and heat over medium heat until it reaches approximately 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain proper frying temperature for even cooking.
- Fry the Apple Rings: Dip each apple ring into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Carefully place 2 to 3 rings into the hot oil without overcrowding. Fry each side for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Dust: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried rings, placing them on a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil. While still warm, dust the rings generously with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for added sweetness and flavor.
- Serve Immediately: Enjoy the fried apple rings fresh for the best texture and taste. They pair beautifully with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce if desired.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, lightly dust apple slices with flour before dipping in batter.
- Best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in a toaster oven or air fryer to maintain crispness.
- Use apples with firm flesh like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for optimal texture.
