Description

Garbage Bread is a deliciously cheesy and savory rolled bread filled with seasoned ground beef, bacon, Velveeta, and cheddar cheese. This easy-to-make dish combines a soft pizza dough crust with a flavorful meat and cheese filling, baked to golden perfection for a comforting meal or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup cooked chopped bacon
  • 1 Tbsp McCormick Grill Mates Hamburger seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 oz Velveeta cheese, cubed
  • 1½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Dough

  • 1 (13.8-oz) can pizza dough
  • Everything bagel seasoning, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 425ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain any excess grease to remove extra fat.
  3. Mix the filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked ground beef, chopped bacon, hamburger seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, and Velveeta cubes. Stir gently just until the Velveeta begins to melt and the mixture is evenly combined.
  4. Prepare the dough: Open the canned pizza dough and roll it out into a 15×10-inch rectangle on a clean surface.
  5. Assemble the roll: Spread the meat and cheese mixture evenly over the pizza dough. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  6. Roll and seal: Starting from the long edge, roll the pizza dough jelly-roll style, sealing the edges by pinching them together tightly to enclose the filling.
  7. Prepare for baking: Place the rolled loaf seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle generously with everything bagel seasoning for added flavor and texture.
  8. Bake and serve: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown. Let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing into portions and serving.

Notes

  • Use freshly cooked chopped bacon for best flavor, but pre-cooked bacon pieces can also work in a pinch.
  • For an extra kick, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
  • Velveeta cheese ensures a creamy texture; you can substitute with processed cheese or mild cheese if preferred.
  • Rolling the dough tightly is key to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
  • Everything bagel seasoning adds great flavor but can be omitted or replaced with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or garlic powder.
  • Allow the bread to cool slightly before cutting to avoid the cheese running out too much.
