Description

A flavorful and vibrant Garlic Turmeric Rice recipe that combines aromatic garlic and turmeric spices with fluffy long-grain rice. This easy stovetop dish is perfect as a side for grilled meats, fish, or roasted vegetables and can be customized with fresh herbs or additional veggies.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (such as basmati or jasmine)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups water or chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch, then drain it well to prevent sogginess during cooking.
  2. Sauté garlic: Heat olive oil or butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant, to infuse the oil with garlic flavor.
  3. Add spices and toast rice: Stir in ground turmeric, salt, and black pepper, then add the rice. Cook while stirring frequently for 1–2 minutes to lightly toast the rice and evenly coat it with the spices.
  4. Add liquid and cook rice: Pour in the water or chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for 15–18 minutes, or until the liquid is fully absorbed and the rice is tender.
  5. Rest and fluff: Remove the pan from heat and let the rice sit, still covered, for 5 minutes. Then use a fork to fluff the rice gently.
  6. Garnish and serve: Optionally, garnish with chopped fresh parsley or cilantro before serving for a fresh herbal note and vibrant color.

Notes

  • For deeper flavor, substitute water with chicken or vegetable broth.
  • This rice pairs excellently with grilled chicken, fish, or roasted vegetables.
  • Enhance texture and nutrition by stirring in peas or sautéed onions.
