Description

Glitter Popcorn is a fun and festive snack featuring crunchy popcorn coated in a sweet, buttery glaze and decorated with shimmering edible glitter. Perfect for parties, movie nights, or any celebration where you want a sparkly treat that’s as visually stunning as it is delicious.

Ingredients

Scale

Popcorn

  • 10 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)

Sweet Glaze

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Decoration

  • Edible glitter (for decoration, any color)
  • Optional: colored sugar or sprinkles for extra flair

Instructions

  1. Pop the Popcorn: Pop the popcorn using a popcorn maker or stovetop method. Remove any unpopped kernels and place the 10 cups of popped popcorn into a large bowl.
  2. Make the Sweet Glaze: In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat until fully melted.
  3. Add Sugar Mixture: Add the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and salt to the melted butter. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
  4. Boil the Mixture: Allow the mixture to come to a gentle boil without stirring. Let it cook for 3-4 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  5. Add Vanilla: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract carefully as the mixture may bubble up.
  6. Coat the Popcorn: Immediately pour the hot sweet glaze over the popped popcorn. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to gently and evenly coat all the popcorn before the glaze starts to set.
  7. Add Edible Glitter: Sprinkle edible glitter evenly over the coated popcorn to give it a sparkling finish. Add as much as desired.
  8. Add Extra Decorations (Optional): For added color and sparkle, sprinkle colored sugar or sprinkles over the popcorn.
  9. Cool the Popcorn: Spread the coated popcorn out on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Allow it to cool and the glaze to harden completely.
  10. Serve: Once cooled and firm, the glitter popcorn is ready to enjoy as a sparkly and sweet party snack.

Notes

  • Ensure all unpopped kernels are removed to avoid biting into hard pieces.
  • Work quickly when coating the popcorn, as the glaze hardens fast once off the heat.
  • Use edible glitter specifically made for food to ensure safety.
  • You can customize the color of the glitter and sprinkles to match your party theme or holiday.
  • Store leftover popcorn in an airtight container to maintain crunchiness.
