- Warm water (about ¾ jar volume)
- 2–3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Glow-in-the-dark paint (washable, non-toxic recommended, small drops)
- Food coloring (optional, a few drops)
Tools
- Fork or toothpick for stirring
- Small bowl for mixing
- Blacklight (optional, for enhanced glow effect)
Instructions
- Fill the jar: Fill your clear jar about ¾ full with warm water to create the base for your glowing fireworks.
- Prepare the glowing oil mixture: In a small bowl, combine 2–3 tablespoons of vegetable oil with small drops of glow-in-the-dark paint. Add a few drops of food coloring if you want a tinted glow. Stir gently with a fork or toothpick until well mixed.
- Add oil mixture to jar: Slowly pour the oil and glow paint mixture into the warm water jar. Pour gently to avoid mixing too much and to let the oil float on the water.
- Watch the effect: Observe the oil droplets floating on the water surface and the glowing paint bubbles bursting and swirling, resembling colorful fireworks.
- Enjoy the glow: Turn off the lights to see the full glow effect created by the paint in the oil droplets.
- Enhance glow: To increase the brightness, charge the jar under a lamp or use a blacklight for an extra vibrant glow experience.
Notes
- Use only washable, non-toxic glow-in-the-dark paint to ensure safety, especially around children.
- The jar can be sealed with its lid to prevent spills and to store the project safely.
- You can experiment with different colors of food coloring and glow paint to create various glowing effects.
- The glowing effect will diminish without occasional light exposure; recharge by placing the jar near a lamp or sunlight.
- This is a no-cook craft project, so adult supervision may be necessary for younger children due to paint usage.
