Description

A quick and flavorful Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp recipe featuring tender shrimp sautéed in a rich garlic butter sauce with a hint of lemon and fresh parsley, perfect for a delicious island-style seafood dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Seasoning

  • 1 1/2 pounds large shrimp peeled and deveined with tails on
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 cloves garlic finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture and place them in a bowl. Toss the shrimp with all-purpose flour, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper until they are lightly coated evenly.
  2. Heat Butter and Oil: Place a large skillet over medium heat and add the unsalted butter and olive oil. Allow them to melt together and get hot but not smoking.
  3. Sauté Garlic: Add the finely minced garlic to the hot butter and oil mixture. Cook for 30 to 45 seconds until fragrant, making sure not to burn the garlic to maintain its delicate flavor.
  4. Cook the Shrimp: Add the coated shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on one side until pink, then flip and cook an additional 2 to 3 minutes on the other side until fully cooked through and opaque.
  5. Finish with Lemon and Parsley: Drizzle the shrimp with fresh lemon juice and gently toss to coat them in the garlic butter sauce. Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the shrimp for a fresh herb finish.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side. For an authentic plate lunch experience, serve over steamed white rice with extra garlic butter spooned on top.

Notes

  • For an authentic Hawaiian plate lunch style, serve the shrimp over steamed white rice with extra garlic butter sauce spooned on top for added richness.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper to suit your preferred level of spiciness, or omit it entirely for a milder dish.
  • Fresh shrimp provide the best texture and flavor; if using frozen shrimp, make sure they are fully thawed and patted dry to avoid excess moisture in the skillet.
