Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 6 sweet apples, chopped
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tsp coconut oil
Crumble Topping
- 2/3 cup oats
- 2/3 cup pecans
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 tsp honey
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) to prepare for baking the crumble later.
- Prepare Apples: Chop the apples into small, even pieces so they cook uniformly in the next step.
- Sauté Apples: Heat a pan over medium-high heat; add the chopped apples, cinnamon, pinch of salt, and 2 tsp coconut oil. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until the apples start to soften, allowing the spices and oil to infuse the fruit.
- Make Crumble Topping: Combine oats, pecans, 1 tbsp coconut oil, honey, and water in a food processor or blender. Blend until the mixture forms a sticky, crumbly texture that will create a crunchy topping once baked.
- Prepare Baking Dish: Lightly grease a small baking dish with coconut oil or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Assemble Crumble: Spread the sautéed apples evenly over the bottom of the baking dish, then crumble the oat mixture over the top, allowing some small chunks to remain for texture.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the topping is golden brown and crisp.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow the crumble to cool slightly before serving to let the flavors settle and avoid burning your mouth.
Notes
- You can substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds if preferred.
- Use honey or maple syrup for a natural sweetener alternative.
- For a vegan version, ensure the honey is replaced with maple syrup.
- Serve warm with a dollop of yogurt or a splash of plant-based milk for extra creaminess.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
