Description

This Hibachi Chicken recipe is a delicious and easy way to enjoy a classic Japanese-American favorite at home. Tender, bite-sized chicken pieces are cooked on the stovetop with garlic, soy sauce, and a flavorful blend of sesame oil and rice vinegar, creating an authentic hibachi flavor. Garnished with green onions and sesame seeds, it’s perfect served alongside fried rice and sautéed vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Marinade

  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 teaspoons garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Garnish (optional)

  • Chopped green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or flat-top griddle over medium-high heat until hot and shimmering.
  2. Cook the chicken. Add the chicken pieces in a single layer to the skillet. Cook for 4–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is browned on all sides and fully cooked through.
  3. Add butter and garlic. Add the butter and minced garlic to the pan. Stir continuously for about 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant and the butter is melted and coating the chicken.
  4. Pour in sauces and vinegar. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar to the skillet. Toss the chicken thoroughly to coat evenly with the sauce mixture.
  5. Finish cooking. Continue cooking for another 1–2 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and glaze the chicken.
  6. Season and garnish. Season the chicken with salt and black pepper to taste. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
  7. Serve. Serve the hibachi chicken hot with fried rice and sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For authentic hibachi flavor, cook on high heat and avoid overcrowding the pan to allow proper browning.
  • Marinate the chicken in soy sauce and sesame oil for 15–30 minutes before cooking to enhance flavor.
  • Use tamari or gluten-free soy sauce to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • Adjust seasoning based on your salt preference, especially if using regular soy sauce.
