Description

Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme is a delicious, Tex-Mex inspired dish featuring seasoned ground beef, crispy tostada shells, fresh vegetables, and melted cheddar cheese all wrapped in a warm, toasted flour tortilla. This recipe offers a perfect balance of textures and flavors, ideal for a flavorful weeknight dinner or casual gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 2/3 cup water

Wrap Components

  • 6 large flour tortillas
  • 6 small tostada shells
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/2 red onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup jalapeños (optional)

Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Once browned, drain the excess fat to remove unwanted grease and improve texture.
  2. Season the Beef: Add the taco seasoning and water to the browned beef, stir well, and let simmer for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens and the flavors meld together. Set this aside.
  3. Prepare Skillet for Crunchwraps: In a separate skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat to prevent sticking and add flavor when toasting the wraps.
  4. Assemble the Crunchwrap: Lay a large flour tortilla flat on a clean surface. In the center, layer seasoned beef, a tostada shell, a dollop of sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, diced tomato, diced red onion, and jalapeños if using.
  5. Fold the Tortilla: Fold the edges of the large tortilla towards the center, pinching the folds together to enclose the filling, forming a secure wrap.
  6. Cook the Crunchwrap: Place the Crunchwrap seam-side down in the preheated skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom is golden brown. Carefully flip and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until golden and the cheese melts inside.
  7. Repeat: Repeat the assembly and cooking process with the remaining tortillas and ingredients.
  8. Serve: Slice the Crunchwraps in half or quarters and serve hot for the best taste and texture experience.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • The jalapeños are optional and can be added based on your preference for spiciness.
  • Feel free to add other toppings like guacamole or salsa for extra flavor.
  • To keep Crunchwraps crispy, serve immediately after cooking.
  • If desired, you can prepare Crunchwraps ahead and reheat them in a skillet or oven for a few minutes before serving.
