Description

These homemade peppermint patties are a delightful seasonal treat with a creamy, minty center coated in rich dark chocolate. Easy to prepare and perfect for gifting, these patties combine smooth peppermint-flavored filling with a crispy chocolate shell for a refreshing and indulgent candy experience.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • ¾ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1¼ teaspoons peppermint extract
  • â…› teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, plus extra for sprinkling

Coating

  • 2 cups dark melting/dipping chocolate
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Peppermint Dough: In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the sweetened condensed milk, peppermint extract, and vanilla extract. With the mixer on low speed, gradually add half of the powdered sugar. Continue adding the remaining powdered sugar bit by bit until a firm dough forms that is pliable but not sticky.
  2. Roll and Cut the Dough: Sprinkle about 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar on a piece of parchment paper. Transfer the dough onto the parchment and knead a few times to blend everything evenly. Roll the dough into a ½-inch thick circle, dusting the top with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
  3. Shape the Patties: Use a 1 to 1½-inch cookie cutter or the top of a small glass to cut out circles from the dough. If the dough gets too warm and sticky, freeze it for 15 minutes before continuing. Place the cut patties onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze them for 15 minutes to firm up.
  4. Melt the Chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each to avoid burning. Allow the melted chocolate to cool slightly for 3-4 minutes before dipping.
  5. Dip and Set the Patties: Using a fork, dip each chilled peppermint patty into the melted chocolate, coating both sides completely. Place the chocolate-covered patties back on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Optionally, sprinkle with decorations. Refrigerate for 20 minutes to let the chocolate harden before serving.

Notes

  • If the dough is sticky, add a little more powdered sugar until it reaches the right consistency.
  • Make sure the chocolate is not too hot when dipping to avoid melting the peppermint center.
  • Store the peppermint patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Sprinkles are optional but add a festive touch for holidays.
  • Use high-quality dark chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
