Description

Crispy, golden oven-fried feta rolls filled with a flavorful mixture of feta cheese, fresh dill, and garlic, perfectly paired with a sweet and spicy chili honey dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Feta Roll Filling

  • 8 oz feta cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tbsp fresh chopped dill
  • 1 clove garlic, grated

Phyllo Dough & Preparation

  • 16-20 sheets frozen phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing

Chili Honey Sauce

  • 1 tbsp salted butter
  • 1-2 tsp chili flakes
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seed
  • 1/3 cup honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Mix the Filling and Assemble Rolls: In a bowl, combine crumbled feta cheese, fresh chopped dill, and grated garlic until evenly mixed. Brush each phyllo sheet lightly with olive oil, place a spoonful of the feta mixture near one edge, then roll the sheet up tightly. Repeat until all rolls are prepared and place them seam side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Brush and Bake: Brush the assembled rolls generously with olive oil to help them crisp up and develop a beautiful golden color. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the rolls are crisp and golden brown.
  4. Prepare the Chili Honey Sauce: While the rolls bake, melt salted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add olive oil, chili flakes, and cumin seeds, stirring to combine and infuse the flavors. Remove from heat and stir in the honey, creating a sweet and spicy sauce perfect for dipping or drizzling.
  5. Serve Warm: Once the feta rolls are golden and crispy, remove them from the oven. Serve them warm alongside the chili honey dipping sauce for a delicious contrast of savory, sweet, and spicy flavors.

Notes

  • Handle phyllo dough gently and keep it covered with a damp kitchen towel to prevent it from drying out while assembling.
  • Adjust the amount of chili flakes in the honey sauce to control the spice level according to your preference.
  • For a crispier texture, make sure to brush the rolls well with olive oil before baking.
  • These rolls can be served as an appetizer, snack, or party finger food.
  • Leftover chili honey can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
