Description

These Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are a delicious appetizer or meal featuring tender shaved steak, sautéed onions and bell peppers, melted provolone cheese, all layered on soft Hawaiian rolls and topped with a savory butter glaze. Perfectly baked until golden and bubbly, these sliders offer all the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak in a convenient, bite-sized form.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ lb fresh shaved steak (beef or chicken)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices provolone cheese, thinly sliced

Glaze Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they soften, then add the bell peppers and minced garlic. Continue cooking until all the vegetables are soft and fragrant. Once done, remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook Steak: In the same skillet, add the shaved steak and cook while breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the steak is browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Make Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, dried thyme, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce to create a flavorful glaze.
  5. Assemble Sliders: Place the bottom halves of the Hawaiian rolls in the prepared baking dish. Layer half of the provolone cheese slices on the rolls, followed by half of the sautéed vegetables, all the cooked steak, the remaining provolone cheese, and the remaining vegetables. Top with the roll lids and brush generously with the prepared glaze.
  6. Bake: Bake the assembled sliders in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve: Remove the sliders from the oven, slice into individual servings, and enjoy immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh shaved steak for the best texture, or substitute with thinly sliced steak if shaved is unavailable.
  • For spicier sliders, add some sliced jalapeños during the vegetable sauté step.
  • These sliders are best served fresh but can be kept warm in the oven set to low heat if needed.
  • Hawaiian rolls are key for the soft, slightly sweet flavor; avoid using dense sandwich rolls.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven to maintain crispness.
