Description

This Pizza Casserole is a quick and delicious twist on traditional pizza, featuring a soft Bisquick-based crust layered with classic pizza sauce, pepperoni, and melted mozzarella cheese. Baked to golden perfection in under an hour, it’s a family-friendly meal perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 3 â…“ cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Italian seasoning

Layers

  • 1 (14-15 ounce) jar pizza sauce
  • 6 ounces sliced pepperoni
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Make Crust: In a medium bowl, combine the Bisquick baking mix, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Add the water slowly and stir until a soft dough forms, adjusting with extra Bisquick or water if the dough is too sticky or dry.
  3. Assemble Layers: Divide the dough in half. Drop spoonfuls of half the dough evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Drizzle half of the pizza sauce over the dough. Then, evenly layer half of the pepperoni slices and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Repeat the layering with the remaining dough, sauce, pepperoni, and cheese to create two delicious layers.
  4. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Serve: Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven. Allow it to cool slightly, then cut into squares and serve warm for a comforting and hearty meal.

Notes

  • Use fresh mozzarella for a creamier texture or mix with shredded mozzarella for easy melting.
  • Customize toppings by adding vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or olives.
  • Ensure the crust dough is soft but not too wet to avoid soggy crust.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven for best texture.
  • For a crispier crust, bake an additional 5 minutes if needed.
