Ingredients
Scale
For the Steak Marinade:
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp sesame oil (divided)
For the Vegetables and Sauce:
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced steak with cornstarch and soy sauce. Allow it to marinate for 15 minutes to enhance flavor and tenderness while you prepare the vegetables and sauce.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sugar, and water until the sugar dissolves completely. Set this sauce mixture aside.
- Sear the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated steak and sear it for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until nicely browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and set it aside.
- Sauté the Vegetables: Add the remaining tablespoon of sesame oil to the skillet. Sauté the sliced onions, red and green bell peppers, minced garlic, and ginger for 3 to 4 minutes until the vegetables soften slightly but remain crisp and vibrant.
- Combine and Simmer: Return the seared steak to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture and stir well to coat evenly. Allow everything to simmer together for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens and the steak is cooked through.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for a fresh finish. Serve the sizzling pepper steak hot over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Notes
- For best results, slice the steak thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
- You can substitute flank steak with sirloin or another quick-cooking beef cut.
- If you prefer a spicier dish, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or chili oil while sautéing vegetables.
- The sauce can be adjusted to taste by adding more sugar or vinegar based on your preference for sweetness or tanginess.
- Serve immediately after cooking for the best sizzling effect and texture.
