Description

This Sticky Honey Garlic Steak and Rotini is a delightful Asian-inspired main course combining tender sirloin steak strips with a flavorful honey garlic sauce, sautéed vegetables, and perfectly cooked rotini pasta. Sweet, savory, and slightly spicy, this dish is quick to prepare and makes for a satisfying dinner that the whole family will enjoy.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 12 ounces rotini pasta

Steak and Sauce

  • 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak, cut into thin strips
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Vegetables and Garnishes

  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the rotini and cook according to the package directions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set it aside for later use.
  2. Cook the Steak: While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Arrange the steak strips in a single layer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and set it aside.
  3. Sauté the Garlic: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not burnt.
  4. Prepare the Sauce: Stir in the honey, low-sodium soy sauce, ketchup, rice vinegar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes into the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Cook the Vegetables: Add the broccoli florets and thinly sliced red bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the vegetables are just tender but still crisp.
  6. Thicken the Sauce: Stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) into the sauce. Continue to simmer until the sauce thickens and achieves a glossy consistency.
  7. Combine Steak and Sauce: Return the cooked steak strips to the skillet and toss to coat them thoroughly in the sticky honey garlic sauce.
  8. Toss with Pasta: Add the cooked rotini pasta to the skillet and gently toss everything together until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce and mixed well with the steak and vegetables.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the dish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for a fresh, nutty finish before serving warm.

Notes

  • For extra heat, increase the red pepper flakes or add a splash of sriracha.
  • You can substitute sirloin with flank steak or ribeye depending on preference.
  • For a lighter option, use whole wheat rotini and reduce the honey slightly.
