Ingredients
Scale
Pasta
- 12 ounces rotini pasta
Steak and Sauce
- 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak, cut into thin strips
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Vegetables and Garnishes
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1/2 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the rotini and cook according to the package directions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set it aside for later use.
- Cook the Steak: While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Arrange the steak strips in a single layer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and set it aside.
- Sauté the Garlic: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not burnt.
- Prepare the Sauce: Stir in the honey, low-sodium soy sauce, ketchup, rice vinegar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes into the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Cook the Vegetables: Add the broccoli florets and thinly sliced red bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the vegetables are just tender but still crisp.
- Thicken the Sauce: Stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) into the sauce. Continue to simmer until the sauce thickens and achieves a glossy consistency.
- Combine Steak and Sauce: Return the cooked steak strips to the skillet and toss to coat them thoroughly in the sticky honey garlic sauce.
- Toss with Pasta: Add the cooked rotini pasta to the skillet and gently toss everything together until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce and mixed well with the steak and vegetables.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the dish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for a fresh, nutty finish before serving warm.
Notes
- For extra heat, increase the red pepper flakes or add a splash of sriracha.
- You can substitute sirloin with flank steak or ribeye depending on preference.
- For a lighter option, use whole wheat rotini and reduce the honey slightly.
