Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables
- 16 large white mushrooms, stems removed and reserved
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup onion, finely diced
- 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
Dairy & Cheese
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Baking & Cooking
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
Optional
- 2-3 tablespoons cooked bacon, crumbled or Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Mushrooms: Clean the mushrooms by wiping them gently with a damp cloth. Carefully remove the stems and chop them finely. Set the mushroom caps aside for stuffing.
- Sauté Filling Base: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped mushroom stems, minced garlic, and diced onions. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, until the onions become soft and fragrant.
- Mix Filling: In a bowl, combine the sautéed mushroom mixture with breadcrumbs, softened cream cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Stir in the cooked bacon or Italian sausage if using. Mix well until creamy and evenly combined.
- Stuff Mushrooms: Spoon the filling into each mushroom cap, pressing gently to pack the mixture firmly inside. Arrange the stuffed mushrooms evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the mushrooms are tender and the tops are golden brown and slightly crispy.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let the stuffed mushrooms cool slightly before serving. Garnish with additional parsley or Parmesan cheese if desired.
Notes
- Use fresh large white mushrooms for best results.
- The optional bacon or sausage adds a smoky, savory flavor but can be omitted for a vegetarian option.
- Breadcrumbs help to bind the filling and add texture; use gluten-free breadcrumbs if desired.
- You can prepare the filling mixture in advance and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before assembling and baking.
- Ensure the mushrooms are wiped clean rather than rinsed to prevent excess moisture.
