Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Filling
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup cooked pepperoni, chopped
- 1/4 cup pizza sauce, plus extra for dipping
- Optional: chopped bell peppers or mushrooms
Topping
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Waffle Maker: Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions and lightly grease it with cooking spray or melted butter to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and dried oregano until well combined.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat together the milk, eggs, and melted butter until smooth and combined.
- Combine Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; do not overmix to ensure fluffy waffles.
- Assemble Waffles: Spoon a small amount of batter onto the center of each waffle section, then add a layer of shredded mozzarella, chopped pepperoni, and any optional vegetables you like. Spoon a little pizza sauce over the filling, then cover completely with more batter to encase the fillings.
- Cook Waffles: Close the waffle maker and cook for 4 to 6 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown and cooked through with a crisp exterior.
- Finish and Serve: Carefully remove the stuffed pizza waffles from the maker, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top, and serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Customize these stuffed waffles with your favorite pizza toppings or create a vegetarian version by omitting pepperoni or substituting with veggies.
- For crispier waffles, cook them an additional 1 to 2 minutes but watch closely to avoid burning.
- Leftover waffles can be reheated in a toaster oven to maintain their crisp texture better than in a microwave.
