Description

These delicious Turtle Bars combine a buttery, crumbly crust with a gooey caramel-like butter and brown sugar layer topped with crunchy pecans and a luscious melted milk chocolate topping. Perfect for parties or a sweet treat, these bars offer a delightful blend of textures and flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened

Turtle Layer

  • â…” cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup pecan halves

Chocolate Topping

  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature by the time your crust is ready.
  2. Make the Crust: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, and softened butter. Beat on medium speed with a mixer for 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture forms fine crumbs. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of an ungreased 13×9-inch baking pan to form the crust base.
  3. Prepare the Turtle Layer: Place ⅔ cup butter and ½ cup brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the butter melts and the mixture begins to bubble. Continue cooking for an additional 30 to 60 seconds, then remove the pan from the heat to prevent burning.
  4. Assemble the Layers: Evenly spread the pecan halves over the pressed crust in the baking pan. Immediately pour the hot butter and brown sugar mixture evenly over the pecans to coat them thoroughly.
  5. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 20 minutes until the surface is bubbly and golden.
  6. Add the Chocolate Topping: Remove the bars from the oven and while still hot, sprinkle 1 cup of milk chocolate chips over the top. Allow the chocolate chips to melt for 2 to 3 minutes, then gently swirl the melted chocolate with a knife to create an even chocolate layer.
  7. Cool: Let the bars cool completely in the pan for about 30 minutes to set. Once cooled, cut the bars into 48 small pieces and serve.

Notes

  • The bars must cool completely before slicing to ensure clean cuts and set layers.
  • You can substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds if preferred.
  • Use high-quality milk chocolate chips for a richer topping flavor.
  • Press the crust firmly to avoid crumbling when slicing.
  • Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
