Scale
Frosting Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 to 4 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Beat the Butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed for 2 to 3 minutes until it becomes creamy and smooth.
- Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar one cup at a time, beating on low speed to prevent sugar from flying out. Once incorporated, increase speed to medium and continue beating until fully mixed.
- Incorporate Vanilla and Cream: Add the vanilla extract, 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk, and a pinch of salt. Beat on medium-high speed for 3 to 4 minutes until the frosting turns light, fluffy, and spreadable.
- Adjust Consistency: If the frosting is too thick, add more cream or milk a little at a time to soften it. For thicker frosting, add more powdered sugar gradually.
- Use or Store: Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies. Alternatively, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Before using refrigerated frosting, allow it to soften at room temperature and re-whip if needed.
Notes
- For extra stability, chill the frosting for 15 minutes before piping.
- You can add a few drops of food coloring for decorative designs.
- This frosting pairs excellently with chocolate, vanilla, or red velvet cakes.
